Rubery Barn Dance Club
Meet at Rubery Community and Leisure Centre
Holywell Lane, Rubery, Birmingham B45 9AD
Our Chairman, and popular caller Roger Middleton is normally on hand to call dances and MC the evening,
A tribute to our founder -
Our in-house band “Treble Clef”
We do dances from a range of sources - Traditional English barn dances, English folk dances, English ceilidh dances, American square dances, contra dances, Scottish dances, Irish ceilidh dances….. The list is endless, assuring a complete mix of dance styles to suit everyone during the course of each evening.
There is a very modest admission fee of £2.50 to attend each meeting; for that you even get a drink and biscuits at the mid-session interval.
Why don’t you come along and join in the fun? The Club is open to anyone and you will be welcome. You can come alone or bring a partner.
It would be sensible to email just to make sure of the location of our dance hall, and to ensure that we are not for some reason having a “night off”. You might like to write down the mobile phone number in case you get lost on the way – you can phone in for directions.
About our club
The Rubery Barn Dance Club was founded by Stephen Woodcock in 1994. Stephen’s aim was to allow members to enjoy a wide variety of dances during Club meetings in a friendly environment. The Club has enjoyed 25 Years of great fun and dancing.
We are a relatively small group, but are keen to increase our membership by persuading new people to join us. You will be able to do a wide mixture of dances ranging from simple fun-to-do dances to more complex dances which need a little more thought and practice. Twice in a month, music is provided by our in-house band “Treble Clef”.
We always meet at the Leisure Centre in Holywell Lane, Rubery, B45 9AD on Tuesday evenings from 8pm – 10pm. (see map) except for Christmas & New Years Eve, if they happen to fall on a Tuesday. Our meetings are very informal and people can have a go at a few folk dances, perhaps in a less frenetic environment than a public barn dance and also learn some of the finer points of dancing.
The very talented Dapiers Round will be providing the music for us again on 1st October
A great night guaranteed!
Dee Chapman will be returning to our club to call for us on 22nd October
Another very special night to look forward to.
We also have a growing number of really good callers in our membership. With up to 12 members who can call, we are unique in the range of dances and styles offered in an evening. We also have visiting expert callers such as Eve Evans, Dee Chapman, Brian Stanton and Nicola Scott, and that, together with the great musicians who come and play for us, makes for a superb evening’s dancing, time and again.
The club is also supporting “Mercian Folk” an organisation devoted to training, supporting and encouraging dance callers. If you have an interest in developing your calling skills, please contact us for more information.
